Radio Test

Kent and Mick tested Family Radio Service (FRS) coverage in the ward using a pair of Kent's Motorola radios acquired several years ago. The only areas where the signal was a little weak were (1) End of Alpine drive by Moons (2) The Snyder's cul de sac (3) The Gardner's cul de sac (this might have been just a temporary problem - we thought there were dead spots in the cul de sac, but we believe it is OK).

Here are some retailers that sell FRS and General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) radios. You don't need a license for the FRS radios. For GMRS radios you do because they are higher power (GMRS radios transmit at 5 watts, which reaches 25 miles vs FRS radios that transmit at .5 watts, which reaches 2 to 5 miles).

We are working out a radio communication protocol. It is a work in progress. Below is what we have come up with so far.
